Are you in a salad funk? Using the same old olive oil and vinegar routine? Salads can easily be kicked up a notch with homemade dressings. Dressings are a great way to include heart-healthy fats in your daily diet – but sadly, many store bought dressings are made with processed oils, and have too many added ingredients that aren’t quite as wholesome as we’d like.

Homemade salad dressing can be quick and delicious, and best of all – you know exactly what’s in them. The key ingredients to make a healthy dressing include:

  1. A healthy fat (extra virgin olive oil, flaxseed oil, sesame oil, avocado oil, or pureed avocado)
  2. Herbs (fresh or dried, whatever you have on-hand)

And that’s pretty much it! Simple, isn’t it?

Try making a batch of this delish Italian dressing for your next bowl of greens! You’ll notice my favorite herbs make an appearance (aka basil and parsley), and this recipe is free of onions and garlic for those looking for a low FODMAP, gut-friendly salad!


– 2/3 cup EVOO

– 1/4 apple cider vinegar

– 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese

– 1 tbsp dried or fresh parsley

– 2 tbsp lemon juice

– 1 tbsp dried or fresh basil

– 1 tbsp dried or fresh oregano

– 1 tsp honey

– 1/4 tsp pepper


Combine all ingredients and shake shake shake until combined. Refrigerate and let the flavor burst before eating. DONE AND DONE.
